Reliance Petroleum in conjunction with BP will be supporting SES Tasmania over the next three years by donating money for rescue and ancillary equipment for volunteer units. Using Reliance Petroleum and BP funding, SES Tasmania have already purchased a pole saw for every SES Unit in Tasmania. A pole saw is a specially designed chainsaw that enables volunteers to reach fallen branches and debris without the use of a ladder. A harness worn like a back-pack to which the pole saw is attached also ensures that volunteers can use the pole saw for extended periods without discomfort.

The SES provides a volunteer response capability for severe storms and floods, road crash rescue, search and rescue/recovery and a range of other general rescue and community support roles.
